Adafruit 0.54" Quad Alphanumeric FeatherWing Display - Red
This is the red Adafruit 0.54" Quad Alphanumeric Display with FeatherWing Combo Pack! It displays letters and numbers in a beautiful colour. It is super bright and designed to be viewed from distances of up to 7 metres. Each of the number sets has 14 segments on a dark background. You get a set of two alphanumeric displays plus a Featherwing driver board to create a four-letter clock or word.

14-segment matrices like these are 'multiplexed' - to drive all 14-segment LEDs, you need 18 pins. There are driver chips like the MAX7219 that can control a matrix for you, but that requires a lot of wiring and space. These alphanumeric LED matrix FeatherWings make it easy to add a 4-digit alphanumeric display with decimal points. The matrix driver chip (HT16K33) handles the multiplexing. The Feather simply sends I2C commands to the chip to control which LEDs should light up. This takes a lot of work and pin requirements off the Feather's hands. Since it only uses I2C for control, it works with any Feather and can share the I2C pins for other sensors or displays.

Light comes into the dark with Adafruit NeoPixel
