The Adafruit A4988 Stepper Motor Driver Breakout Board is a compact solution for controlling stepper motors. It is suitable for CNC machines, 3D printers and other applications where precise and powerful movements are required. The Allegro A4988 DMOS driver enables control with only two pins: DIRection for the direction of rotation and STEP for individual steps or microsteps. By default, the driver is set to 1/16 microstep mode, but can be customised using the MS1/MS2/MS3 pins. LEDs provide visual feedback for the signals.

The driver supports motor voltages from 8V to 35V and logic voltages from 3V to 5V, making it compatible with a wide range of microcontrollers and single-board computers such as Arduino, ESP32 or Raspberry Pi. A potentiometer can be used to limit the current up to 2A, which protects the motor and driver. A robust 2-oz copper board provides improved heat dissipation.
