Der COB-LED-Buchstabe E ist eine lichtstarke Leuchtelement-Komponente, die aus einer Vielzahl von Mikro-LED-Dioden besteht. Diese sind auf einer festen Metallrückseite angeordnet und mit einer schützenden Silikonbeschichtung versehen. Das Design sorgt für eine gleichmäßige Ausleuchtung mit warmweißem Licht.

COB (Chip-on-Board) LEDs sind bekannt aus dekorativen Edison-Glühbirnen und erzeugen durch die dichte Anordnung der Dioden eine homogene Lichtquelle. Obwohl die LEDs nur auf einer Seite platziert sind, sorgt das dünne Trägermaterial dafür, dass Licht auch nach hinten abstrahlt, wenn auch mit geringerer Intensität.

Die Betriebsspannung des Buchstabens E beträgt 3V DC. Die LEDs sind parallel geschaltet, sodass eine Stromaufnahme von bis zu 100mA auftreten kann. Zur Begrenzung des Stroms wird der Einsatz eines Vorwiderstands empfohlen, um eine Überlastung der LEDs zu vermeiden.

Das starre PCB-Substrat ermöglicht eine einfache Befestigung auf verschiedenen Oberflächen, beispielsweise durch Kleben, Nähen oder Binden mit transparentem Faden. Die LEDs können mittels PWM-Technologie (Pulsweitenmodulation) gedimmt werden, um unterschiedliche Helligkeitsstufen zu erreichen.

Der elektrische Anschluss erfolgt durch Verbindung mit beiden Enden der Platine. Der Minuspol ist mit einem kleinen "-" Symbol auf der Platine gekennzeichnet. Falls das Element beim ersten Anschluss nicht leuchtet, kann durch Umpolen die korrekte Polarität festgestellt werden.
