A Feather board without ambitions is a Feather board without FeatherWings! This is the NeoPixel FeatherWing, 4x8 RGB LED add-on for all Featherboards! With matching female headers or headers, you can connect a FeatherWing to the top or bottom of your FeatherBoard and make your FeatherBoard strut like a peacock at a rave.
Put on your sunglasses before you stare into these 32 configurable, eye-catching RGB LEDs. Arranged in a 4x8 matrix, each pixel is individually addressable. Only one pin is required to control all LEDs. On the underside we have jumpers for the DIN line to each of the I/O pins on a Feather. Works with any Adafruit Feather! You can disconnect the standard trace from the jumpers and use any pin you like. (In particular, the default pin for Feather Huzzah ESP8266 needs to be moved, try pin #15!) It works with ESP32 Feather, but is not currently recommended due to a NeoPixel timing issue that makes it difficult to control more than 30 pixels.
To make it easier to get started, the LEDs are powered by default from either the USB power supply or the battery supply, whichever is higher. Two Schottky diodes are used to switch between the two. This power supply arrangement can handle a constant current draw of 1 amp and perhaps 2A peak, so not a good way to make a torch. It's better for colourful effects.
A level-up shifter converts the Feather's 3.3V logic to mains voltage. For example, if you need MORE flashing, you can daisy chain them together. For the second Wing, connect the DIN connector to the first Wing's DOUT. Also connect a ground pin together and supply the Feather with an independent 5V supply, to avoid overloading the power supply.
