Aeotec has been developing devices for the Z-Wave radio standard since 2007 and is one of the most established names in the field. Unlike WiFi devices, Z-Wave components form their own mesh network in which every mains-powered device acts as a repeater – this keeps the network stable even in large buildings and independent of the home WiFi.
The range includes multi-sensors that combine motion, brightness, temperature, humidity, vibration and UV in one housing, plug-in switches with energy monitoring, door and window sensors, sirens and water leak detectors. Aeotec also manufactures the SmartThings hubs, making it a central supplier for that ecosystem.
Z-Wave devices are certified and interoperable across manufacturers, and they work with controllers such as Home Assistant, Homey, openHAB and Fibaro.
