The Crowtail Collision Sensor 2.0 is a collision detection sensor for mobile robot platforms. The module detects collisions by activating the built-in switch upon contact with an obstacle.By default, the module outputs a high voltage that changes to a low level as soon as a collision is detected. This enables easy integration into Arduino-based control systems for obstacle detection.
The module is compatible with an operating voltage of 3.3V to 5V and can be used directly with Arduino and Crowduino platforms. The connection is made via a crowtail interface and a JST-PH 2.0 4-pin connector, which ensures a secure connection with microcontrollers or other compatible devices. Thanks to its compact design, the sensor can be integrated into various mobile robot applications to automatically detect and react to collisions.
The crowtail collision sensor detects collisions, vibrations or impact movements using a mechanical trigger. If such a movement is detected, the sensor emits a short, low output signal. Detection is omnidirectional, i.e. independent of the direction of the impact. An external circuit in the module suppresses interference signals caused by normal vibrations so that only actual collisions are detected. This improves signal stability and prevents false triggering.
The high sensitivity allows it to be used in projects such as automatically activating or deactivating devices in response to movement. In simple terms, the sensor works like a switch that triggers automatically when an impact is detected. It is connected to a microcontroller board and switches an LED or other components on or off, for example, depending on the movement. The function is implemented via a short Arduino program that reads the sensor on a digital pin and outputs a signal, e.g. for an LED, when a collision is detected.
