The Crowtail Gas Sensor (MQ3) 2.0 is based on the MQ-3 sensor and is used to detect alcohol vapours in the air. The sensor has a high sensitivity to alcohol vapours and a low sensitivity to petrol. The module offers stable performance and a long service life, making it suitable for a wide range of gas applications.
An ETA1036 IC is also integrated. This highly efficient synchronous step-up converter achieves an output power of up to 3W at an input voltage from 0.85V with an efficiency of up to 96%. This means that the module can also be used in applications with a low supply voltage. The sensor is compatible with microcontrollers such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi, provided the corresponding interfaces are available. The simple driver circuit enables uncomplicated integration into existing systems.
The MQ-3 sensor is part of the MQ sensor series, which includes other variants such as MQ-2, MQ-5 and MQ-9. These sensors are each specialised for different gases. The MQ-3 is suitable for detecting alcohol in concentrations between 0.02 % and 1 %. The sensor generates an analogue voltage that is dependent on the gas concentration. The response time is short, which makes it suitable for real-time measurements in safety or analysis applications.
