This stylish microphone amplifier module stands out from the crowd and features automatic gain control. Automatic gain control (AGC) ensures that 'loud' nearby sounds are attenuated so they don't overpower and 'clip' the amplifier, and that quiet, distant sounds are also amplified. This amplifier is ideal if you want to record or track audio signals in an environment where levels change and you don't want to be constantly turning up the gain.
At the heart of this amplifier is the MAX9814 chip, which has a number of options that you can configure using the breakout. The maximum gain is set to 60 dB by default, but can also be set to 40 dB or 50 dB by connecting the gain pin to VCC or ground. You can also change the attack/release ratio from 1:4000 to 1:2000 or 1:500. The output of the amplifier is a maximum of 2 Vpp with a bias voltage of 1.25 V. It can therefore be used with any analogue/digital converter that has an input of up to 3.3 V without any problems. If you want to connect it to a line input, you only need to connect a 1-100uF capacitor in series (100uF is best).
