The Waveshare infrared temperature sensor enables non-contact measurement of the surface temperature of objects based on the emitted infrared waves. It can also determine the average temperature over an area. The module offers high precision, fine resolution and fast response time. It is factory calibrated and has temperature compensation for temperature gradients. Thanks to the integrated level converter, the sensor can be operated directly with 3.3V and 5V MCU systems. It is connected via I2C, which makes it easy to integrate into microcontroller projects.
The module is particularly suitable for applications where non-contact temperature measurement is required, such as industrial temperature control or the monitoring of household appliances. Thanks to its compact design and standardised interface, the sensor is easy to install and can be integrated directly into existing systems.
The sensor detects the infrared radiation emitted by an object without the need for direct contact. It uses this to calculate the surface temperature. An additional function is the calculation of an average temperature over a defined area. In simple terms: the sensor measures heat from a distance without touching anything. It not only recognises the temperature of a single point, but also the average value of an environment. This is particularly useful when fast and precise temperature information is required, e.g. in control or monitoring systems.
