Waveshare 2.13inch E-Paper HAT+
The Waveshare 2.13inch E-Paper HAT+ is an energy-saving E-Ink display with a resolution of 250×122 pixels that supports the Raspberry Pi HAT+ standard. The display is based on microcapsule electrophoresis technology and shows content without backlighting. The displayed image is retained even after switching off. The integrated DS3231 RTC chip enables precise time control.

The product was designed as a direct successor to the Waveshare 2.13" E-Paper V2 display and includes an integrated real-time clock. This function and the HAT+ conformity make it optimised for use in Pwnagotchi systems. A corresponding online tutorial for Pwnagotchi porting is available.

The immersion gold surface improves solderability, protects against corrosion and increases the reliability of the electrical contacts. The display supports partial and full updates with short switching times. The wide viewing angle of over 170° and the paper-like display behaviour enable a clear display even in direct light. Connections for SPI communication, lithium battery with JST connector and additional mounting holes are available.

The display is used for microcontroller and SBC projects that require a permanent, energy-efficient display under ambient light. Typical applications include electronic labels, clock displays, status panels and battery-powered IoT devices. The board is designed for Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W and other devices with 40PIN GPIO header.

The product displays black and white content with two shades of grey and is suitable for applications where a static display without backlight is required. The display is permanently visible without power. The paper-like effect is based on the reflection of ambient light by electrically controlled microcapsules.

The integrated RTC chip controls time-controlled processes even without an active network connection. The immersion gold technology improves the contact quality and service life of the circuit board.

This product can be used to display texts, symbols or measured values on low-power devices. It is suitable for time-controlled displays with battery-operated microcontrollers and for systems such as Pwnagotchi. Due to the HAT+ conformity it can be placed directly on Raspberry Pi boards. The display reacts slowly compared to LCDs, but only consumes energy when switching and otherwise remains passive. Content remains visible after switching off.
