Witty Pi 3 Mini adds a real-time clock (RTC) and power management to the Raspberry Pi and can define complex on/off sequences with a simple script.
Unlike the Witty Pi 3, the Mini is in pHAT format (Pi Zero size).
Witty Pi 3 supports all Raspberry Pi models with 40-pin header, including A+, B+, 2B, 3B, 3B+, 3A+, 4B, Zero and Zero W.

Just run these two commands on the Raspberry Pi to install the Witty Pi 3 software:

The Witty Pi 3 Mini is then mounted and offers the following functions:

Conveniently switch the Pi on and off with a single tap of the switch
After switching off, the power supply to the Raspberry Pi and all USB peripherals is completely interrupted
Raspberry Pi knows the correct time, even without internet access
Raspberry Pi knows the temperature thanks to the sensor in the RTC chip
Programme fixed times for start-up and shutdown
Define complex on/off sequences via script
Automatically switch off the Raspberry Pi if the input voltage falls below a defined value

Compared to the Witty Pi 3, the Witty Pi 3 Mini uses the same RTC chip (DS3231SN) and the same microcontroller (ATtiny841). The main difference is that the LDO voltage regulator (LM29150) is not fitted on the Witty Pi 3 Mini. This reduces the cost for those who do not need this LDO, and also makes it easier to integrate another DC/DC module into the Witty Pi 3 Mini.

Unlike the Witty Pi 3, which uses a 3V button battery to keep time when switched off, the Witty Pi 3 Mini uses a supercapacitor (0.08F, or 80000uF) for this purpose.

UUGear – power and time management for the Pi

UUGear is a company from Prague that develops expansions for the Raspberry Pi – with a clear focus on two areas the Pi itself does not cover well: power supply and time.

The Raspberry Pi has no battery-backed real-time clock. Without a network it does not know the time after switching on. And it has no scheduled power-on – once shut down, it stays off. This is exactly where Witty Pi comes in: the module provides an RTC and switches the Pi on and off according to a schedule. For battery-powered projects this is decisive, because the Pi can remain completely without power most of the time.

Zero2Go supplies the Pi from several sources with automatic switching, and RaspiKey replaces the SD card with faster eMMC storage.
