The MKR WAN 1310 represents a number of improvements over its predecessor, the MKR WAN 1300. It is still based on the Microchip SAMD21 low-power processor, the Murata CMWX1ZZABZ LoRa module and the MKR family's signature crypto chip (the ECC508), but includes a new battery charger, a 2MByte SPI Flash and improved control of the board's power consumption.

The success story begins in 2005, when the two passionate IT people Massimo Banzi and David Cuartielles develop the first Arduino, in Italy, and immediately hit the bull's eye. By the way, contrary to what is often claimed, Arduino boards cannot be used as a replacement for the Raspberry Pi, because unlike the mini-computer with the raspberry, the Arduino is dependent on an external computer. However, depending on the project, an Arduino board can be used in combination with a Raspberry Pi.
