Product information "seeed Grove - Touch Sensor"
The Grove - Touch Sensor replaces mechanical buttons with touch-based control. It is based on the TTP223-B touch detector IC, which is used for capacitive detection of a proximity signal. As soon as a finger is in the vicinity of the metallic sensor surface, the IC recognises the change in capacitance and triggers a corresponding output signal. The sensor has two operating modes: a fast mode and a power-saving mode. The mode can be defined by the connection of the LPMB pin. In fast mode, the response time is a maximum of 60 ms, in power-saving mode up to 220 ms. The sensitivity of the sensor can be adjusted in the range from 0 to 50 pF using an external capacitance. Thanks to the Grove-compatible socket, the sensor can be easily integrated into existing projects.
The sensor measures capacitive changes on a metal surface. This technology is based on the principle that the capacitance of the surface changes when a finger comes close to it. The TTP223-IC recognises this change and emits a signal. The way it works is comparable to the touchscreen technology of modern smartphones. The sensor can be mounted behind non-metallic surfaces such as plastic or glass and continues to function reliably. This is advantageous for applications where the electronics need to be protected by a surface or waterproof.
Thanks to its compact design and contactless function, the sensor is suitable for various applications such as hidden buttons, water-protected switches or applications in industrial control and the IoT sector. It can be mounted inconspicuously under smooth surfaces and thus offers the possibility of integration into concealed or design-oriented control elements.
