The SparkFun FT231X Breakout Kit gives you everything you need to get started with FTDI with the full UART hardware handshake function! The pinout of the included FT231X breakout board matches the FTDI cable to work with official Arduino and cloned Arduino boards. It can also be used for general serial applications.

The SparkFun FT231X breakout still brings out the DTR pin as opposed to the RTS pin of the FTDI cable. The DTR pin allows an Arduino target to automatically reset itself when a new sketch is downloaded. This is a really nice feature that allows a sketch to be downloaded without having to press the reset button. This board performs an auto-reset for any Arduino board that has the reset pin brought out to a 6-pin connector.

One of the features of this board is a jumper on the back that allows the VCC output to be configured to either 3.3V or 5V. This board ships with 5V by default, but you can cut the default trace and add a solder jumper if you want to switch to 3.3V. It should be noted that the maximum input of the FT231X is only 3.3V, but it can work with external pull-ups up to 1.8V and is also 5V tolerant.

Also included in this kit is a 0.8m reversible USB-A-to-Micro-B cable and a 40-pin header with break-away connectors.

Note: Soldering is required to attach the included headers to the breakout board.
