Sending data over long distances is like magic, and now you can become a magician yourself with this range of powerful and easy-to-use wireless modules. Sure, sometimes you want to talk to a computer (a good time to use WiFi) or maybe communicate with a phone (choose Bluetooth Low Energy!), but what if you want to send data very far? Most WiFi, Bluetooth, Zigbee and other wireless chipsets use 2.4 GHz, which is ideal for high-speed transmissions. If you're not so concerned with streaming video, you can use a lower licence-free frequency such as 433 or 900 MHz. You can't send data as fast, but you can send it much further.'

Plus, these packet radios are simpler than Wi-Fi or BLE: you don't have to connect, pair, scan or worry about connections. All you have to do is send data whenever you want, and any other module set to the same frequency (and with the same encryption key) will receive it. The receiver can then send a reply back. The modules handle the packetisation, error correction and automatic retransmission, so you don't have to worry about it all, but less energy is wasted on maintaining the connection or pairing.

These modules are great for use with Arduinos or other microcontrollers, for example if you want to rebuild a sensor node or transmit data across a campus or city. The disadvantage is that you need two or more radios with matching frequencies. WLAN and BT, on the other hand, are usually included in computers and phones.

These radio modules are available in four variants (two modulation types and two frequencies) The RFM69's are the easiest to use, and are well known and understood. The LoRa radios are more exciting and powerful, but also more expensive.

This is the LoRa radio module in the 433 MHz version! We also have a 900 MHz version. These are +20dBm LoRa packet radios that have a special radio modulation that is not compatible with the RFM69s, but can go much further. You can easily go 2km line of sight with simple wire antennas, or up to 20km with directional antennas and tweak settings

All radios are sold individually and can only communicate with radios of the same part number. E.g. RFM69 900 MHz can only talk to RFM69 900 MHz, LoRa 433 MHz can only talk to LoRa 433 MHz, etc.

Each radio comes with some headers, a 3.3V voltage regulator and level shifter that can handle 3-5V DC voltage and logic so you can use it with 3V or 5V devices. Some soldering is required to attach the header. You will need to cut and solder a small piece of wire (any solid or stranded wire will work fine) to create your antenna. Optionally, you can take a uFL or SMA edge connector and attach an external duck.
