Description
Product information "Pimoroni Wireless Plasma Kit (Pico W Aboard), Starry Edition"
An innovative combination of Raspberry Pi Pico W, addressable LEDs and Pirate Glass(TM) technology - this kit contains everything you need to build a fully programmable RGB LED light (or as we like to call them here: arrrrrrrrrrRGB). As the 50 LEDs are addressable, you can control the colour and brightness of each one individually!
Here are some things you can do with it:
- Set it to show different colours and effects depending on the season, occasion, mood or mood.
- Add an air quality sensor like SCD41 to get a visual notification when the CO2 level is too high.
- Connect to your favourite APIs and get different effects for different weather conditions, turn on the lights at sunset or inform you when the International Space Station is overhead.
- Use a service like IFTTT to trigger effects based on tweets, calendar entries or home automation events.
Powered by Plasma Stick 2040 W
The Plasma Stick is our LED controller. We've taken a Raspberry Pi Pico W and added the appropriate hardware so you can connect a colourful string of WS2812/Neopixel lights without having to solder or worry about plugs. We've also added a reset button and a Qw/ST (Qwiic/STEMMA QT) connector for connecting sensors and other breakouts. The Pico W is powered via the USB Micro-B port, so you can easily power it via a USB socket (or with a USB battery pack if you want to disconnect it from the mains).
We've pre-installed the Plasma Stick with MicroPython and a selection of examples to help you get started. Check out our Learn guide to find out how to put it all together!
Starry Edition
This kit contains everything you need to create a star-shaped decorative light that will light up your festive window, sleigh or boundless black void with sparkle (and a touch of hygge).
The Starry Kit contains:
- Plasma Stick 2040 W (with Pico W on board)
- Star bottle with cork (approx. 195 mm high)
- 5m WS2812/Neopixel compatible addressable LED cable (50 LEDs)
- USB A to micro-B cable
- Velcro points for attaching the circuit board to the bottle
You can programme the Pico/RP2040 boards in various ways, but if you are a beginner, we recommend using our batteries including MicroPython to get you started. We've pre-loaded the Plasma Stick with pirate-branded MicroPython and some fun examples to show you what you can do, from a menacing night light that gets brighter as it gets closer to midnight to a good old-fashioned flame effect you can snuggle up to on cold nights.

Connecting breakouts
The Qw/ST connector on the Plasma Stick makes it super easy to connect Qwiic or STEMMA QT breakouts. If your breakout has a QW/ST connector on the board, you can connect it directly with a JST-SH to JST-SH cable.
Breakout Garden breakouts that do not have a Qw/ST connector can be connected with a JST-SH to JST-SH cable and a Qw/ST to Breakout Garden adapter. Want to use >2 breakouts at the same time? Try this adapter!

About Pico W Aboard
Our new Pico W Aboard products are equipped with an inbuilt Raspberry Pi Pico W. This means you have all the benefits of an RP2040 microcontroller - a fast dual-core ARM processor, a dynamic, growing ecosystem and a choice of different programming methods to experiment with. But the most exciting thing is that the Pico W has wireless connectivity, so your Pico/RP2040 devices can communicate with each other and the internet!

Optimize your Raspberry Pi - with Pimoroni
Pimoni is the expert when it comes to equipping your Raspberry Pi with high-quality add-on modules. The successful company was founded in 2012 in Sheffield, England, and now also has a branch in Essen, Germany. According to the University of Sheffield, Pimoroni is even considered one of the fastest growing manufacturing companies in the UK.
The electronics specialist has the right solution for almost every need around the Raspberry Pi. The product range also includes the Pimoroni Fan Shim, a powerful 30mm CPU fan for the Raspberry Pi, which is one of the top sellers from Pimoroni. The Fan Shim manages a powerful 4,200 RPM and delivers significant added value by optimizing the thermal performance of your Raspberry Pi. Compatibility exists with the Raspberry Pi 4, but also with the 3 B+ and 3 A+ models.
The fan is equipped with RGB LED and a tactile switch, making it wonderfully controllable. The LED serves as an indicator to track the fan status and CPU load/temperature. The tactile switch is also handy: With the help of the included Python library and a daemon, you can program it to switch between temperature-controlled automatic mode and manual mode. Thanks to its "friction-fit" header, the Pimoroni Fan Shim can easily be plugged onto the pins of your mini computer and is ready to go without soldering. In general, the installation is uncomplicated and should not take more than two minutes. While the fan is doing its job, the noise level is very low: The maximum value is only 18.6 dB.
Apart from the Pimoroni Fan Shim, many other top products from Pimoroni are available at Berrybase. The Pibow Coupé 4 is recommended for all owners of a Raspberry Pi 4: The compact case reliably protects your mini computer from external influences like dust or shocks. All ports remain open and thus accessible. The high-quality processed and easy to mount frame for the official 7" Raspberry Pi touchscreen display also fulfills its protective function perfectly. With the Pirate Audio HAT you get a first-class 3W stereo amplifier for your mini computer: Use the module in combination with your Raspberry Pi and your speakers to control the playback of your favorite music and to create powerful sound.
Depending on what you have in mind, you can also use other modules from Pimoroni, such as LED sensors, camera modules or the Pico HAT Hacker.
