The Arduino Mega 2560 is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega2560. It has 54 digital input/output pins (15 of which can be used as PWM outputs), 16 analogue inputs, 4 UARTs (hardware serial ports), a 16 MHz crystal oscillator, a USB connection, a power socket, an ICSP header and a reset button. The board is compatible with most shields developed for the Uno and the earlier Duemilanove or Diecimila boards. It contains everything needed to support the microcontroller; simply connect it to a computer with a USB cable or power it with an AC-DC adapter or battery.

By the way, contrary to what is often claimed, Arduino boards cannot be used as a replacement for the Raspberry Pi, because unlike the mini-computer with the raspberry, the Arduino is dependent on an external computer. However, depending on the project, an Arduino board can be used in combination with a Raspberry Pi.
