The Grove-Wio-E5 is a wireless radio module based on the Wio-E5 STM32WLE5JC. It combines an ARM Cortex-M4 ultra-low-power microcontroller with a LoRa-compatible SX126x radio chip. This module supports various modulation techniques such as LoRa, (G)FSK, BPSK and (G)MSK. It is designed for applications that require low power consumption, long range and battery-powered operation. The integrated AT command interface facilitates the development of prototypes and applications. The module supports the LoRaWAN standard with the EU868 and US915 frequency plans as well as other frequency bands such as AU915, AS923, KR920 and IN865.
The module is fully compatible with the Grove system and uses the standardised Grove connection. It can be connected to development boards via the UART interface and controlled by AT command. The combination of radio module and microcontroller in a compact format with extensive interfaces such as UART, I2C and ADC makes it a flexible solution for applications in the field of long-range communication. Fields of application include smart agriculture, smart city, wireless meter reading and other LPWAN IoT scenarios. The module is certified according to FCC, CE, Telec and IC, which facilitates rapid product certification.
The Grove Wio-E5 module offers the option of integrating wireless communication with a long range and low power consumption. It is particularly suitable for connecting sensors and actuators via LoRaWAN networks. Point-to-point transmission also enables direct communication between two modules. The supply voltage is 3.3 V or 5 V, the maximum output power is up to +20 dBm. The high reception sensitivity of up to -136 dBm contributes to the range strength. The module is housed in a compact 20 × 40 mm format and supports an operating temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C.
