Seeed Grove - UART WiFi V2 (ESP8285)
Grove - UART WiFi V2.0 (ESP8285) is a serial transceiver module with an integrated ESP8285 SoC that has TCP/IP protocol stack firmware. This enables a microcontroller to access WLAN networks using simple text commands. The module supports 802.11 b/g/n in the 2.4 GHz band with a data rate of up to 72.2 Mbps and can be used as an access point (AP) or station. It offers WPA/WPA2-PSK and WPS security protocols as well as a configurable MAC/IP address system.

The module is based on the ESP8285, an improved version of the ESP8266, and contains five energy modes (OFF, DEEP_SLEEP, SLEEP, WAKEUP, ON), high cache performance for system optimisation and low power consumption in standby mode.

The Grove-compatible module is pluggable and can be used immediately thanks to pre-installed AT command firmware. It is suitable for microcontroller developments in the field of home automation, wearables, sensor networks, network monitoring and other IoT applications.

The module can be used as a stand-alone application or as a WLAN adapter in host microcontroller designs via SPI/SDIO or I2C/UART interfaces. The fast response time (wake-to-transmit < 2 ms) allows real-time applications with low latency.

These bonnets plug directly into your Pi and give you the ability to communicate over long distances wirelessly with remote nodes that may be battery powered. Or you can easily create internet gateways. Not only do you get a wireless module, but also a 128x32 OLED display for status messages and three buttons that allow you to create your own user interface or send test messages. All of this is supported by our Python libraries, so you can send or receive packaged wireless data with other matching modules on a network, and even build your own gateway using the Pi's inbuilt networking capabilities. Compared to the 2.4 GHz WiFi/Bluetooth radios already on the Pi, these modules run at 433 or 900 MHz (sub-GHz). They can send data not as fast, but much further. These packet radios are simpler than WLAN or BLE, you don't have to associate, pair, scan or worry about connections. All you do is send data, whenever you want, and all other modules tuned to the same frequency (and with the same encryption key) will receive. The receiver can then send back a reply. The modules take care of packetisation, error correction and can also re-transmit automatically, so you don't have to worry about everything, but less energy is wasted on maintaining a connection or pairing. These modules are ideal for use with other microcontrollers with matching radios (such as RadioFruit Feathers), e.g. if you want to set up a sensor node.For example, if you want to set up a sensor node network or transmit data across a campus or city. The disadvantage is that you need two or more radios with matching frequencies. These radio modules come in four variants (two modulation types and two frequencies) The RFM69's are the easiest to use, and are well known and understood. The LoRa radios are more exciting and powerful, but also more expensive. This is the 900 MHz RFM69 radio version that can be used for either 868MHz or 915MHz transmit/receive - the exact radio frequency is determined when loading the software as it can be retuned dynamically. These are +20dBm FSK packet radios which have lots of nice extras built in such as encryption and auto retransmit. You can achieve at least 500 metres line of sight with simple wire antennas, probably up to 5Km with directional antennas and suitable settings . Seeed Grove - PIR Motion Sensor The Grove - PIR Motion Sensor (passive infrared sensor) is an electronic component for detecting infrared radiation emitted by objects within its field of view. The sensor can be easily integrated into projects via the Grove interface and can be used as a motion sensor for Arduino projects by connecting it to a base shield and programming it accordingly. PIR sensors are often used in security alarm systems and automatic lighting systems. A PIR sensor consists of a pyroelectric element that detects different levels of infrared radiation. If the sensor detects a change in the infrared radiation, a signal (HIGH) is emitted at the SIG pin. The sensitivity and reaction speed can be adjusted using two potentiometers on the circuit board.
